The Camarillo you drove through last August is not the Camarillo you'll drive through this one. A shuttered Souplantation is now a chef-driven grill. A Pizza Man Dan's on Las Posas is turning into a Bay Area transplant. The Camarillo Outlets picked up a rooftop cantina. And the airshow, the food-truck nights, and the Constitution Park concerts have all landed inside the same two-week stretch.

If you've lived here a while, the useful question isn't "what is there to do." It's what changed since last summer, and where locals are actually spending their Thursdays now.

The two-week window that anchors the month

Circle August 15 and 16. The Camarillo Wings Association will host the 2026 Wings Over Camarillo Air Show with support from volunteers from the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, EAA Chapter 723 and the Ventura County 99s. The event will take place August 15 and 16, 2026 at the Camarillo Airport. Gates open at 9am. Aerial performances run from noon to approximately 4pm.

This year's theme is worth the trip on its own.

"Celebrating 90 Years of the DC-3 - A Legend That Changed the World."

On the ground will be a classic car show, aircraft display models, food vendors, craft beer, an interactive STEM Pavilion, and a tribute to military veterans that recreates wartime air combat with pyrotechnics. If you've been every year, the DC-3 emphasis is the real hook. If you haven't been in a while, the STEM pavilion and vendor footprint have grown noticeably.

The catch: the airshow lands in the middle of the same weekend the summer concert series is winding down and food-truck night is still running at the Ranch. That collision is why locals stop planning by "event" and start planning by day of the week.

Thursday nights and Saturday nights have quietly reorganized

Two long-running series overlap this month, and if you don't live off Ponderosa or in Mission Oaks, you may not have realized how consistent the cadence has become.

The Thursday routine is at the Ranch. The #TBT Food Truck Festival at Camarillo Ranch runs from 5 to 8 pm on select Thursdays during June, July, and August 2026, with food trucks, local beer and wine. It's the closest thing Camarillo has to a standing weekly gathering that isn't a farmers market.

The Saturday routine is at Constitution Park. The Summer Concert Series is a free, family-friendly outdoor concert event hosted at Constitution Park, brought to you by the Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District and the City of Camarillo. The concerts run from June into September, and twice a month area performers offer tribute concerts commemorating various pop artists. The park also serves as the location for monthly movies under the stars on Friday nights, typically box-office hits.

The concert opening this weekend at Pleasant Valley Park District has a small detail that matters if you have kids: Cousins Maine Lobster is scheduled at the Pleasant Valley Park District Summer Concert on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 5:30 PM at 601 Carmen Dr. Same truck also shows up at Wings Over Camarillo the following weekend, which is a reasonable answer to "we already ate lobster rolls last week" — go for the planes instead.

The restaurant map has actually moved

Second, the Las Posas Road corridor is finally seeing quick-service turnover. A separate concept called Shooby's is serving stacked smashburgers, hand-spun shakes, crispy chicken tenders, and fries as a laid-back casual option. Between Shooby's, the incoming Slice House, and the ramen shop, the stretch is closer to what a comparable Thousand Oaks arterial looks like than it was two summers ago.

Two indoor detours when the afternoon hits triple digits

August afternoons in the valley are the reason people invented indoor plans. Two exhibits worth knowing about, both within a short drive:

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is running a brand-new exhibition marking 250 years of American independence. This once-in-a-generation exhibition opened on May 22, 2026, and serves as both a reflection and a celebration of America's story. If you have out-of-town family visiting for the airshow weekend, this is the anchor that turns a one-day visit into two.

Closer to home, at Camarillo Ranch itself: a new exhibit on Isabel Camarillo, the matriarch of the Camarillo family, is open in her actual home. Docent-led house tours run Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with the last tour starting at 1:30 PM. Pair it with the Ranch's gardens: a dozen unique thematic gardens are maintained by professional gardeners, and guided hour-long tours take place on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 11:00 AM.

Small tip: the September calendar is already fuller than August.
